Case Study: Shoreshots Boys Basketball Media Day

Overview
The Shoreshots Basketball Club — one of the premier AAU programs in the country — partnered with Laura Bruen to elevate their brand presence across social media and recruiting platforms. The goal: create high-impact, magazine-style portraits for over 100 athletes during their annual Media Day.
Objective
To deliver a cohesive collection of professional athlete portraits that:
- Amplify the Shoreshots brand identity through consistent visual storytelling.
- Provide individual players with high-quality, marketable imagery for recruitment.
- Supply parents and players with customized recruiting packages and social-ready content.
- Enhance Shoreshots’ social media engagement and team recognition.
The Challenge
Photographing over 100 players in one day required a precise system of flow, lighting consistency, and brand alignment. Each athlete needed a few moments in front of the camera to express personality and confidence – key for both recruiting and social storytelling – while maintaining uniform visual standards across the team.
Creative Approach
Laura developed a studio-style setup designed for speed and impact.
- Backdrop & Lighting: Minimalist black backdrop to emphasize intensity, focus, and the Shoreshots branding.
- Pose Direction: Empowering athletes to bring attitude, pride, and individuality into the frame — with subtle editorial direction for posture, expression, and presence.
- Typography Integration: Each image included a vertical “ATHLETE” graphic overlay — signature to Laura Bruen’s series — adding a modern, magazine-style feel and branding continuity.
Execution
Laura worked with multiple stations and assistants to keep sessions efficient. Each athlete was guided through poses for:
- Hero Portraits (shoulder-up intensity shots)
- Full-Length Posed Shots (dynamic athletic stance)
- Ball Interaction Shots (to show readiness and connection to the sport)
All portraits were color-balanced for brand cohesion, with a mix of high-contrast color and timeless black-and-white edits for storytelling versatility.

Impact
The final imagery redefined how Shoreshots presents its athletes — shifting from casual snapshots to professional-grade visuals that reflect both excellence and identity. The content rollout across social media received exceptional engagement, showcasing the players as rising stars and positioning Shoreshots as a leader in athlete branding.
